Following Meles Zenawi the Ethiopian court sentenced the 2 swedish to 11 yrs.

As  reported by  BBC " Two Swedish journalists have been jailed for 11 years in Ethiopia for entering the country illegally and supporting terrorism". the tow jornalist Martin Schibbye and Johan Persson were detained in July after they were captured in Ethiopia with rebels from the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF).

As to my understanding the  weyane will not hold the Swedish 11 monthes let alone 11 years . the rigiem wanted this  tragedy as a means to get money, to discourage anyone from visiting the Ogaden, as Martin Schibbye and Johan Persson did  and also to send a warning signal to the national and international media about the danger of receiving a long jail sentence on a terrorism charge if they attempt any potentially embarrassing investigative reporting. But  the trial against the journalists might open the eye of the international media to look into what is happening in Ethiopia and may also support the  a fight for press freedom in Ethiopia.

The Swedish Union of Journalists condemned the jail term and called on Sweden to intervene. "It is obvious that this is a political sentence," the union's president Jonas Nordling said in a statement.
"Now the Swedish government has the heavy responsibility of resolving this at the political level," he added. "The government must show that Sweden is doing everything possible to support and defend freedom of the press."

Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said last week Sweden was seriously concerned about the judgment and the journalists should be freed as soon as possible. The European Union expressed "serious concern" about the sentence and hoped the two would be released soon.
